Although it might not be as much of a household name as the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO Max, there’s no doubt that Crackle is one of the more impressive streaming services currently available. They have a pretty deep lineup of well-received and popular movies and TV shows in their library.

The best part about Crackle is that it’s totally free to check out this content, so using it won’t add anything to your monthly bills. Each month, new films and TV shows are added that continue to make it a hidden gem of a streaming platform.

Funny Girls (2015-2018)

The cast of Funny Girls

You might not have heard about Funny Girls but it’s an underrated gem from the 2010s. This New Zealand sketch comedy show lives up to the title as it boasts a strong cast of hilarious leading ladies who have gone on to appear in some notable roles.

Jackie Van Beek (What We Do in the Shadows), Rose Matafeo (Starstruck), Kimberly Crossman (Golden Boy), Zara Cormack (The Tender Trap), and Laura Daniel (My Life is Murder) are all included. The series being available on Crackle opens it up to plenty of new viewers.

A Life In 10 Pictures – Tupac Shakur (2022)

Tupac Shakur

Crackle has its own originals and exclusives, with July’s most exciting possibly being A Life in 10 Pictures – Tupac Shakur. The premise of the event takes a look at a series of photographs from throughout the iconic rapper’s life to get a deeper dive into who he was.

Along with being an all-time great rapper, Tupac Shakur also was an impressive actor. Some of the most iconic photos from his life and career will be covered along with some rarely seen private images. This series has also covered Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse, and many other icons.

Horrible Bosses 2 (2014)

In 2011, Horrible Bosses proved to be a strong comedy hit thanks to a tremendous cast including Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, and Jamie Foxx, just to name a few. The gang got back together for another hilarious sequel a few years later.

This follow-up sees the main group of characters kidnap the son of someone who screws them out of a business deal in an attempt to blackmail him. Although reviews weren’t as strong this time around, adding Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz proved to be a genius move.

The Spectacular Now (2013)

Two of the most consistently impressive young actors working right now are Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller. A big step on their path to becoming breakout stars was 2013’s The Spectacular Now, an emotionally-charged romantic drama featuring great performances.

Based on a novel of the same name, the story sees high schoolers Aimee (Woodley) and Sutter (Teller) fall in love only for some serious personal issues to make things extremely difficult. The supporting cast includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Brie Larson, and Kyle Chandler, only adding to the talent involved.

Ginger & Rosa (2012)

The two leads of the movie

Another rising star in Hollywood is Elle Fanning and long before she was doing incredible work on The Great, she was shining in indie flicks like this. Ginger & Rosa follows the titular girls, a pair of best friends, as they grow up in 1960s London ahead of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Fanning’s performance is top-notch, as is the work of her leading co-star, Alice Englert and the supporting cast of veteran actors. Ginger & Rosa won a slew of independent film awards when it was released, making it a must-watch.

Locke (2013)

One of the most impressive things that an actor can do is star in an entire film and be the only person to appear on screen. Ryan Reynolds pulled it off masterfully in 2010’s Buried and Tom Hardy did the same a few years later in Locke.

Appearing as the titular character, Hardy shines as he drives around all night having a handful of conversations over the phone that could change his life. The people that call him are voiced by the likes of Olivia Colman, Tom Holland, Andrew Scott, and Ruth Wilson.

Resident Evil (2002)

Milla Jovovich Resident Evil 2002

Although reviews for the series weren’t particularly strong, there’s no denying the popularity of the Resident Evil film franchise. Based on the games of the same name, the movies have grossed over $1 billion and it all started with 2002’s Resident Evil.

In the eyes of many, the first installment is still the best in the franchise as it introduces Milla Jovovich’s Alice and includes a memorable role from the always badass Michelle Rodriguez. It’s heavier on the action than it is on the horror but it makes for a thrilling watch.

Real Husbands Of Hollywood (2013-2016

Nick Cannon, Kevin Hart, and Khloe Kardashian in The Real Husbands of Hollywood

The success of the Real Housewives franchise was bound to lead to a spoof and there was likely nobody better to pull it off than Kevin Hart. The over-the-top comedian stars with his friends on Real Husbands of Hollywood as fictionalized versions of themselves.

The series perfectly parodies the reality TV genre and has a slew of notable stars alongside Hart including Nelly, Nick Cannon, and J.B. Smoove. Each season is also boosted by a who’s who of guest stars.

Enemy (2013)

If you think about the combination of actor Jake Gyllenhaal and director Denis Villeneuve, you’re likely going to remember Prisoners. However, that same year they came together to make Enemy, a smaller indie movie based on a novel titled The Double.

The film focuses on a man who spots an exact lookalike in a movie and seeks him out, giving Gyllenhaal a dual role to play. The well-received picture earned a handful of nominations when it was released and marks an under-the-radar look at the talented Villeneuve’s work.

Under The Skin (2013)

Although she is certainly most known for her long-standing role as Black Widow in the MCU, many believe that Scarlett Johansson’s best performance came in Under the Skin. The small sci-fi film sees her play an otherwordly woman who seduces and then preys on men in Scotland.

Under the Skin is a slow-burn film and it makes masterful use of its small budget. It also won some notable awards and was nominated for a couple of BAFTAs along the way. Any fan of Johansson’s should give this a viewing.
