2022 Lecture Series: Lecture 1 – Aviation Comes to Edmonton
The First World War revolutionizes aircraft as war machines. For many, the open sky is a powerful lure away from muddy trenches. Many Edmontonians are called to the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service, or their successor, the Royal Air Force. The war launches the careers of famous local pilots, including Wop May, Cy Becker, and Punch Dickins – the fortunate few to survive Europe’s deadly skies.
