Police in Ohio say that five people were injured after a shooting at a park on Saturday.It happened around 6 p.m. when police responded to a shooting at Bramble Park in Cincinnati’s Madisonville neighborhood. Cincinnati Police say all victims were then transported to a hospital and that they ranged in age between 24 and 46.In a press conference Sunday night, Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge said that all five sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to survive.”Every Cincinnati in should be upset with what happened yesterday,” said Theetge.Chief Theetge also joining event organizers in condemning the violence.”Besides just the number of people shot, what is extremely unfortunate is that it occurred in one of our city parks in broad daylight while these fine people were trying to have an event for the residents and the kids of Madisonville, it’s unacceptable,” says Theetge.Local leaders and event organizers saying gatherings like this are important for communities.The annual “Madisonville Day” party was going on at the time of the shooting. A crew from sister station WLWT was at the scene on Saturday night and found cups and other trash items scattered around the park upon arrival.Damen Gooch who put on ‘Madisonville Day’ with his brothers, said they won’t let what happened this weekend stop them from providing family fun.”We shouldn’t just let just one incident might stop us from doing what we’re doing because all we are trying to do is just bring the community together,” said Gooch.Cincinnati police released a statement on Facebook Sunday that asked the community to come forward with any information that they know about the incident.”How does a gathering in our local park, a place of peace and happiness, turn into a dark moment of pain and suffering?” the statement from CPD read. ” Silence is a form of violence. Thus, anyone who has information or may have witnessed this tragic incident, we ask that you please come forward.”It continued, “Our investigators need your help and cooperation to quickly identify those responsible for this heinous act. We can’t allow our vibrant communities to be overtaken by cowardly individuals, those who see no wrongdoing in inflicting pain, sometimes death upon us. Not today, Not tomorrow. We will always remain stronger together.”
