The attorney for the Wayne County Board of Supervisors is charged with conspiracy in connection with a kidnapping scheme involving former Ole Miss and NFL player Jerrell Powe. Cooper Leggett, 40, was arrested Friday at his home in Waynesboro by members of a U.S. Marshals Task Force. Leggett was then taken to the Ridgeland Police Department where he was processed and was later held at the Madison County Detention Center, Ridgeland Assistant Chief Tony Willridge said.Leggett was later released after posting $20,000 bail.Willridge said the extent of Leggett’s involvement is still under investigation. Powe and Gavin Bates are both charged with one count of kidnapping after they were arrested earlier this month at Chase Bank in Ridgeland.Investigators said the victim was part of Powe’s investment in a marijuana-growing operation. Powe is accused of forcing the man to go to the bank in Ridgeland to return the money he and others had invested in that operation, according to police.
