Dirt work is underway on the property in Ridgeland where the new Central Mississippi Realtors headquarters will be built.
The 13,000-square-foot building will be constructed at 564 Sunnybrook Road, near Ridgeland High School and HORNE CPA and business advisory firm.
“We had a groundbreaking on July 28,” said Katie Warren, president of Central Mississippi Realtors, a trade association with about 2,000 members. “It’s a great location in the heart of the growth of Ridgeland.”
The approximately $2 million building will serve as the new headquarters instead of the building the association has owned in downtown Jackson since 1974 and has outgrown, said Jo Usry, chief executive officer of Central Mississippi Realtors.
Realtors will have more space where they can attend training and networking events, meet clients and offer community events and programs, she said.

Gary Parker, chair of the Central Mississippi Realtors Building Committee, said the location will be convenient for the association’s members, the majority of whom live in Madison County, and access off I-55 will be easy.
Plans for the building have been in the works for about four years. The association searched for a building to purchase but didn’t find a suitable one and decided to purchase property and build, Warren said.
The headquarters will include offices for Central Mississippi Realtors staff members, conference space and a community center that can be divided into two spaces or used as one that can accommodate 350 people, which is the usual number of Realtors who attend the association’s general meeting, Warren said. MLS, a service provider, will have its offices upstairs.
The community center will be available for organizations to rent, Warren said.

Architect Daniel Wooldridge designed the building, and Jodie Morgan is the builder.
Central Mississippi Realtors has jurisdiction for 10 counties that include Hinds, Rankin, Madison, Copiah, Leake, Attala, Smith, Holmes, Yazoo and Scott.
“Realtors are the voice for real estate, advocating for consumers and property owners’ rights related to home ownership,” Warren said.
With low interest rates, Realtors are busy these days, she said.
“Inventory is at an all-time low,” she said. “It’s a seller’s market. That’s everywhere.”
