There may be plenty of fish in the water, but what we sometimes forget is there are a lot of other animals too.

Gavin Borsky was trying something new — fly fishing.

Everything was going like it usually does, bait in the water, line ready for a catch, but then when he tried to reel the fish in, an alligator came swimming behind it! The gator raced out of the water to snatch the fish from Gavin’s hook.

Gavin said he caught what he was looking for, a peacock bass, and then a little more than he bargained for.

“I was able to catch one. reel it in, and then I look over and he is right there,” Gavin said.

Gavin said this isn’t the first time he’s gone fishing in the Stoneybrook Community in Estero, Florida. Even after this encounter, it won’t be the last.

His mom, Julie Borsky, said she didn’t believe it at first.

“This is kind of a freak thing that happened. It’s not typical I don’t think,” she said.

This time, the gator was just after the fish.

“It’s a beautiful fish — any fish, I just feel bad to see it die like that,” Gavin said.
