Oklahoma students are getting some extra experience this summer, with hands-on learning and a potential career in aviation.“All of our career programs are very high-demand fields,” said Ryan Patten, the camp’s director. “See what opportunities there are out there that maybe they never heard of.”In its second week, fourth graders were learning about air conditioning while junior high school students learned about aviation.“Our students are learning how to tie a bow line, we have to secure the aircraft, especially living in Oklahoma, we have major windy days,” said Jessica Jacobs, a teacher at Metro Tech. “The hands-on is what really pulls students here and what they are most intrigued about.”“Our aviation field needs mechanics so I love that we get to reach out and go to these students for them to be actual prospects for us later in the future,” Jacobs said.The inspiring experience is meant to get kids interested in Metro Tech and fill needed jobs across the state.”There is always going to be need for it, students can come here, get their certification,” Patten said.
