An Animal Crossing: New Horizons modder has turned a few popular Squishmallow plushies into villagers and added them into the game in a new mod.

Squishmallows have now made their way into Animal Crossing: New Horizons as villagers thanks to a modder. While the latest entry in the Animal Crossing series is still relatively popular two years on from its release, the game hasn’t seen a significant update since last year’s Happy Home Paradise DLC. While the game still gets smaller updates and annual events, there’s definitely a lot of potential ACNH DLC that should have happened, especially considering that the game is still relatively young and only released a single major DLC pack in that time.

Because of the lack of any new major content updates, many remaining Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have turned to mods to further expand and enrich their gaming experience. While there is some risk to adding and using mods in the game, especially if the player applies them directly to their Nintendo Switch console instead of an emulator, there are those who are willing to take that chance to try out a few mods. Even though there are quite a sizable number of available mods out there, the best Animal Crossing: New Horizons mods are arguably the ones that either improve the game’s quality of life or add more characters.

YouTube channel Timmy vs Tommy released a new video showing them creating new Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers based on several popular Squishmallow plushies. Some of the Squishmallow characters that they turned into Animal Crossing villagers include Philippe the Frog, Philippe the Frog, and Sabrina the Caticorn. Since Squishmallow plushies are just round and don’t usually have limbs and the limitations of the software Timmy vs Tommy used to make the mod, they had to take a few creative liberties to turn them into villagers for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

This isn’t the first time an Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has made villager versions of popular characters from outside the franchise. Another modder recently made ACNH villager versions of Pokémon Gen 9’s starters, namely Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxley. Unfortunately, many of these mods – including the Squishmallow villager and Pokemon Gen 9 starter villager ones – aren’t publicly available.

Nonetheless, given that many Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are also fans of Squishmallow plushies, just being able to see them in the game, even if it’s just through a YouTube video, is definitely pretty awesome. Hopefully, this and other villager mods somehow become available for other players to use in their own islands.
