LIKE, COULDN’T I GO TO SLEEP? YOU KNOW, WHILE MOST KIDS ARE READING BOOKS THAT OTHER PEOPLE WRITE, A LOCAL CHILD IS ALREADY A PUBLISHED AUTHOR. AND NOT JUST OF ONE BOOK, BUT NOW TWO BOOKS. YEAH, YOU JUST HEARD SAMMY WALLACE. HE’S READING HIS NEW BOOK, THE SLEEPING CURSE COVID. I HAD TO STAY HOME SO MY GRANDMA, WHICH IS, UM, USED TO BE A TEACHER, SHE CAME AND TAUGHT ME. AND WE WERE LOOKING AT OUR RHYMING WORDS, AND WE WROTE A BOOK. TWO YEARS LATER, THEY GOT IT PUBLISHED, AND MY MOM ILLUSTRATED IT, AND WE MADE IT INTO A BOOK. THEN ANOTHER TWO YEARS LATER, WE MADE A MADE ANOTHER BOOK ABOUT ME NOT GOING TO SLEEP. YOU START WHEN HE WAS FOUR. IT WAS FIVE. IMPRESSIVE. INCREDIBLE. I FEEL LIKE HE’S BEEN IN MY HEAD THOUGH. THE NO SLEEP CURSE. WE FEEL IT. WE DO. UM, HE IS ADORABLE. AND HIS PARENTS TELL US HE READ HIS FIRST BOOK. UH, TO OVER A THOUSAND PEOPLE. THEY ALSO SAY WALLACE LOVES TO READ AND WRITE AND ENCOURAGES OTHE
While most kids are reading books, an Oklahoma child is already a published author. Sammy Wallace has not only written one book, but two books by the age of 9 years old. Wallace attends Pleasant Hill Elementary School, where he premiered his second book, “The No Sleep Curse,” during an assembly Friday. “During COVID, I had to stay home, and my grandma, who use to be a teacher, she came and taught me. We were working on rhyming words, and we wrote a book,” Wallace said. “Two years later, they got a publisher. Mom illustrated, and we made it into a book.” His parents said Wallace read his first book to more than 1,000 people. “Then another two years later, we made another book about me not going to sleep,” Wallace said. Wallace’s parents said he loves to read and write, and he encourages others to do the same.
