Beyoncé has won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best R&B Song with “Cuff It.” The superstar took home the award over fellow nominees Jazmine Sullivan (“Hurt Me So Good”), Mary J. Blige (“Good Morning Gorgeous”), Muni Long (“Hrs & Hrs”), and PJ Morton (“Please Don’t Walk Away”). The victory tied Beyoncé for the most wins in Grammys history, having won 31 career awards. She was not at the ceremony to accept her latest Grammy, with host Trevor Noah saying that she may be stuck in traffic. She eventually made it to the ceremony.
“Cuff It” is the fourth track from Renaissance, Beyoncé’s first solo studio album since 2016’s Lemonade. In the interim between solo LPs, she released a live album, collaborated with her husband, Jay-Z, on a full-length effort, and assisted with an album tied to Disney’s 2019 remake of The Lion King. As with her other six solo albums, Renaissance debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, making her the first female artist to reach the milestone.
Beyoncé came into the day as the most-awarded artist in the Best R&B Song category, and she took home trophies for Best Dance/Electronic Recording (“Break My Soul”), and Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Plastic Off the Sofa”) before winning Best R&B Song. The 2023 Grammys mark the first time Beyoncé, the winningest female artist in Grammys history, has been nominated in a Dance/Electronic category.
Beyoncé was nominated in nine categories at this year’s Grammy Awards, picking up nods elsewhere for Record of the Year (“Break My Soul”), Album of the Year (Renaissance), Song of the Year (“Break My Soul”), and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album (Renaissance).
Beyoncé was nominated in two other categories—Best R&B Performance (“Virgo’s Groove”) and Best Song Written for Visual Media (“Be Alive”)—but she lost to Muni Long and Lin-ManueL Miranda, respectively.
