A water main break outside a hotel in Fondren has been shooting a fountain of water for more than four months.”We didn’t really pay for this water feature, and we would really like for the city to come out and fix it,” said Christopher Wiese, the director of operations for Homewood Suites.The unwanted fountain on the sidewalk off East Lorenz Street has been an issue for the hotel for months, and Wiese said it’s been getting worse every day.”We’re angry about this situation, to be honest with you. I’m only smiling because I work in hospitality, but this situation has gone on far too long, and we’re hoping they do something about it very soon,” Wiese said.Wiese said the leak started in mid-October. At first, hotel staff thought it was the sprinkler system, but they soon realized it was a city problem.”We’ve been told that parts have been ordered. We received confirmation, emails, etc. We’ve contacted the city, the mayor’s office — pretty much everyone,” Wiese said.But nothing has been repaired, and a sinkhole is now forming. Wiese said this latest problem is just one more thing the hotel has had to deal with the past two years in Jackson.”When the hotel has zero water, guests check out, and of course, that affects people that actually work here,” Wiese said. “And being able to take home a full week’s pay because they have to find alternate sources of work at times because of the water issues in Jackson.”The hotel has put up caution tape around the sinkhole to make sure no one gets hurt. WAPT has contacted Jackson officials, the third-party administrator and the mayor’s office for comment, but there was no immediate response.
