Buried in the Mississippi Mud is the depiction of a young black woman who endured molestation, rape, and domestic abuse by both family and alleged suitors. It also depicts her cyclical broken relationships from which she bore children. In an effort to overcome her many tragedies and traumas, she unfortunately found herself in cult. Her breakthrough happened synchronously with escaping the old plantation culture still prevalent in the Mississippi Delta. It’s a story of tragedy yet encouragement of from a young black woman becoming self aware and finding her strength.
