AND SHE’S A CHILD. >> ON FRIDAY, THE CANTON PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT CONFIRMED THE TERMINATION OF A RESOURCE OFFICER AT NICHOLS MIDDLE SCHOOL FOLLOWING AN INCIDENT ON CAMPUS BETWEEN THE OFFICER AND AN EIGHTH GRADE STUDENT. THURSDAY, A STATEMENT FROM THE DISTRICT SAYS THE OFFICER FAILED TO ADHERE TO PROPER PROCEDURES AND PROTOCOLS FOLLOWING AN INVESTIGATION. FRANCOIS REMEMBERS HOW IT ALL STARTED. I WAS TRYING TO TAKE MY MEDICINE AND I WENT TO MY OTHER TEACHER BECAUSE SHE NORMALLY HAVE WATER AND STUFF, SO I ASKED HER I WAS TRYING TO GET WATER FROM HER, BUT THE MISS PARKER, SHE STOPPED ME AND SHE TOLD ME TO TAKE THE HEADPHONES OFF. FRANCOIS SAYS SHE TOOK THE HEADPHONES OFF AND WENT BACK TO CLASS, BUT THE OFFICER STARTED CURSING AND YELLING AT HER, GRABBED ME BY MY JACKET AND THEN SHE YANKED ON MY HAIR. >> AND THAT’S WHEN I TURNED AROUND AND ALLOCATION. I DO THAT BECAUSE SHE WAS HURTING ME. SHE GRABBED ME BY MY ARM AND SHE PULLED ME OUT OF THE DOOR. THAT’S WHEN SHE TOOK ME INTO THE BLIND SPOT. >> FRANCOIS SAYS SHE WAS INSTRUCTED TO GET ON THE GROUND, WHILE OTHER STUDENTS AND SOME STAFF MEMBERS WATCHED. >> SHE PUSHED MY HEAD AGAINST THE WALL. SHE GRABBED MY NECK AND SHE STARTED CHOKING ME. >> THE EIGHTH GRADER TELLS US SHE HAS BEEN BULLIED BY STAFF AND STUDENTS AT SCHOOL, BUT A TEACHER CAME TO HER RESCUE. HER MOTHER, ALEXIS DAVIS, WAS THEN CALLED TO THE SCHOOL WHERE SHE SAW HER DAUGHTER HANDCUFFED. >> SHE TOLD ME MY BABY WAS SCREAMING DOWN THE HALLWAY, AND YOU KNOW WHAT COMES TO MIND, GEORGE FLOYD. BUT I WANT JUSTICE IN CANTON.

School district says officer ‘failed to adhere to proper procedures and protocols’

A school resource officer has been fired after the Canton Public School District launched an investigation into an incident involving an eighth grade student.According to district officials, the officer was involved in an altercation Thursday with the student at Nichols Middle School. “After conducting a thorough investigation, it was discovered that the resource officer had failed to adhere to proper procedures and protocols,” CPSD Superintendent Gary Hannah said in a statement. “Consequently, the Nichols Middle School resource officer was terminated.”Hannah went on to say that the district is committed to providing a safe and orderly learning environment for all students.
