Clinton drive-by, fire connected to Jackson homicide

Clinton police said Friday that a series of crimes there are believed to be connected to a Jackson homicide. The Clinton Police Department responded Thursday morning to a report of a drive-by shooting in which shots were fired into a house in the 700 block of Cherry Park Boulevard. Thursday night, the Clinton Fire Department responded to a fire at the same house.”A witness claimed to see two black males pouring an accelerant around the perimeter of the home before attempting to set fire to the residence,” Marlee Price, a spokesperson for the city of Clinton, said in a release. No one was injured during either incident and fire officials said the damage to the home was minimal. Clinton police have determined that Thursday’s shooting incident is connected to a drive-by shooting and murder reported Wednesday in Jackson that killed 39-year-old Juan Taylor. The Jackson Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting, which took place at the intersection of Boling Street and Medgar Evers Boulevard. A suspect has been identified by JPD as Jeremiah Hampton, who is still on the run. The Clinton and Jackson police department are working together to investigate the series of crimes, Price said. Patrols have been increased in the Cherry Park Boulevard area.”CPD is working vigilantly to prevent further retaliation from spilling over into the city of Clinton,” Price said in the release.Anyone with information that can help police is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
