FBI agents descended upon several locations in Jackson on Wednesday, including a business owned by Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens.”The FBI is executing federal search warrants at the multiple locations. The affidavit in support of the search warrants has been sealed by the court and so I am prohibited from commenting further. There is no threat to public safety,” FBI Public Information Officer Marshay Lawson said in a statement.The FBI was seen at the Downtown Cigar Company about 9 a.m. Owens owns the cigar shop on Pearl Street. FBI agents were also seen getting off the elevator at the Hinds County Courthouse. They had come from the floor where the district attorney’s office is located. The agents were carrying bags, boxes and a printer.The Office of the District Attorney Seventh Circuit Court District released a statement saying: “This morning, FBI agents came to our offices. We are fully cooperating with their efforts. The Hinds County District Attorney’s Office is fully functioning and continues its work on behalf of the citizens of Hinds County. That has been and will continue to be our primary focus. Currently, we have no further statements.”Hinds County Board of Supervisors President Robert Graham said “it’s very concerning,” but couldn’t comment.”There’s just so much that we don’t know,” Graham said. “In fact, we don’t know. I don’t know anything. I’m as surprised as everyone else. Two casually dressed FBI agents also came to Jackson City Hall and spoke with the mayor’s Chief of Staff Dr. Safiya Omari. The agents left and then came back a second time.”I don’t want to speculate because I don’t have any proof of anything. I can’t prove anything or disprove anything. It’s just that we’ll have to wait and see,” Graham said.
