A car was caught on camera floating along a Florida waterway on Sunday. Customers at Miceli’s restaurant were shocked and weren’t expecting to end their evening witnessing something like this. “We were just enjoying our dinner,” said one customer. “Not something you see every day something really rare that you see,” a server at the restaurant, Benjamin Cruz, said.Seeing the red SUV in the water, Cruz thought he was dreaming. “I mean that’s the thing like it really shouldn’t,” said Cruz. “The only thing I can think of is they forgot to put it in park and just rolled down the ramp into the water.”At first, many were concerned that someone might be stuck inside, as multiple first responders arrived to check the car. Our drone found the vehicle floating less than a mile from the restaurant, still partially submerged. “As you can see it’s ripping right now this current moves at different times of the day through here very quickly, so that thing was moving it was gone before you knew, it was turning the corner and almost sunk in,” general manager Kevin Branigan said.On Sunday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office told sister station NBC2 that it was an unoccupied vehicle whose brakes gave out causing it to slide into the gulf. Now the visitors to Miceli’s and other spots in Matlacha have a Sunday night memory they won’t soon forget. “What a day at the office let me tell you I’ve seen a lot of crazy things happen here but a car floating down a canal is definitely a first,” said Kevin. Now since it’s in state waters, Florida Fish and Wildlife has tagged the vehicle for later removal. “Definitely one of the weirdest things ever,” said Cruz.
