A new behind-the-scenes set video from the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special sees David Tennant back in his costume as the Tenth Doctor.

A new video from the set of the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special sees David Tennant back in costume as the Tenth Doctor. Doctor Who is in for some major changes as a new era is coming to the beloved BBC sci-fi drama. Currently, Jodie Whittaker holds the mantle of the titular role, with her iteration being known as the Thirteenth Doctor. However, after starring in Doctor Who since 2017, Whittaker is set to exit the TARDIS after the third and final 2022 Doctor Who special, which will air in October.

While one Doctor is hanging up their sonic screwdriver, another one is coming. With Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor set to regenerate in the final Doctor Who special this year, Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa was announced as the Fourteenth version of the character. Gatwa’s casting marked a historical moment for Doctor Who, as he will be the first BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) actor to portray the iconic Time Lord in a series lead role. While it will be a bittersweet Doctor Who special, 2023 is already gearing up for another celebration as the show is currently shooting the 60th anniversary special, which will include the return of David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, alongside his original companion, Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble. Production on the special kicked off not long ago, and has been busy filming in Bristol, England.

While the BBC is keeping details of the special’s plot under wraps, Tennant’s Tenth Doctor was spotted in a new behind-the-scenes Tik Tok set video (via @FutureMrsRogers92), donning his original costume. The video shows Tennant walking around the Doctor Who set in a long coat, white shirt and tie. Tate follows behind him as the pair navigate the set. Check it out below.

David Tennant as the 10th Doctor on Doctor Who

This latest video will be exciting to many, as it confirms that Tennant will return to Doctor Who with his classic look of a long coat, perhaps hinting at the timeline of the upcoming special. Other than Tennant and Tate’s confirmed return, it remains unclear if there will be any other familiar faces coming back for Doctor Who’s latest milestone. Similar to the 50th anniversary, there have been speculations and rumors about past Doctors appearing. Two big new cast members officially announced for the 60th anniversary special are Neil Patrick Harris and Yasmin Finney. Harris is attached as a mysterious villain, while Finney, best known for her role on Heartstopper, is set to play a character named Rose in Doctor Who (though it’s unclear whether her role connects to Billie Piper’s Rose).

Though the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special may not have announced any other returning Doctors yet, it wouldn’t be surprising if these details are revealed in future. Given how long the Doctor Who anniversary specials shoot, recent Time Lords like Matt Smith or Peter Capaldi could be confirmed soon, if they are scheduled to film their scenes in the coming weeks. As production gets further in, more news is likely in store regarding the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special. In the meantime, this latest look at Tennant back in his Doctor costume is sure to increase anticipation.
