Vincent D’Onofrio hopes to face Spider-Man in the MCU, fueling theories about Kingpin being the villain of Spider-Man 4. Let’s take a look.

The events of Spider-Man: No Way Home left the door open for the appearance of some fan-favorite characters, so it’s not surprising that there are a lot of theories on who could appear in Spider-Man 4, and many of these point at Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) – and his appearance is now more likely to happen. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 has brought some big surprises so far, as are the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, all of which happened in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Daredevil is not alone in the MCU, as his archenemy Kingpin returned in the TV series Hawkeye.

Daredevil returned in the TV series She-Hulk and he and Kingpin will cross paths again in the upcoming TV series Daredevil: Born Again, but Kingpin might return to the MCU earlier. Although not confirmed yet, Marvel is expected to bring a fourth Spider-Man solo adventure in the near future, and there’s already a lot of speculation about the characters that Spider-Man (Tom Holland) could come across, more so now that no one remembers Peter Parker. Among the many rumors and theories are those that claim Kingpin will show up, and D’Onofrio’s comments on who he would like to face in the MCU have only fueled those expectations.

Why Kingpin Makes Sense As Spider-Man 4’s Villain

At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker was left all alone as Doctor Strange cast a spell to make everyone forget him and with that close the gates of the multiverse. Spider-Man is starting all over again, and he’s on his way to finally being more of a street-level hero. This makes way for many storylines and characters, and with the Kingpin now confirmed as part of the MCU and rising to power, it makes sense that Spider-Man will come across him in the near future – and, of course, their rivalry makes more sense when looking at the comic books.

Kingpin made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #50, in 1967, and he was introduced as a Spider-Man adversary. Their first confrontation happened after Kingpin tried to form a coalition of New York’s crime families after hearing that Spider-Man disappeared, but the web-slinger returned to stop him. With time, Kingpin became Daredevil’s archenemy as well as a frequent adversary of the Punisher and Echo, his adoptive daughter, but he continued to cross paths with Spider-Man, who kept stopping his plans of expanding his crime empire.

What Kingpin As Spider-Man 4’s Villain Would Mean

Kingpin being the villain to defeat in Spider-Man 4 would be the best way for the MCU to make Spider-Man’s transition from an international superhero to a street-level one a lot smoother, as he would be giving the young hero a reason to be one. Kingpin going against Spider-Man would also show how much his crime empire has been growing and how much of a threat he really is, and at the same time, it would ground the MCU a bit after so many adventures in space, other realms, and multiversal battles. Of course, Kingpin’s role in Spider-Man 4 would make a team-up between Spider-Man and Daredevil even more likely, as they will have a common enemy that keeps making their lives more complicated than they already are.

So far, Spider-Man has faced villains who rely on technology and more to create chaos and go after him, so the Kingpin as the villain of Spider-Man 4 would be a refreshing and fitting change now that Peter is rebuilding his life from scratch. However, if Kingpin returns and faces Spider-Man, it would be best to let the web-slinger deal with him all by himself, so Daredevil would have to wait for his turn to meet good old Spider-Man.
