Dozens of protesters outside of Chancery Court ahead of solar farm vote

Over 40 protesters started their morning outside of the Hinds County Chancery Court Monday ahead of a big vote by the board of supervisors. Protesters came ready with lawn chairs and signs to oppose a solar farm project by Soul City Solar. Attendees said they’ve been sitting outside of the chancery court since 7 a.m. ahead of the board meeting, which starts at 9 a.m. According to the agenda, Soul City Solar wants a conditional use permit to construct and operate the solar farm.The mayor of Raymond is on the agenda to address supervisors about how the solar farm will affect the community.According to the agenda, the county planning commission voted to reject the company’s request for a permit.
