Families in Belhaven gathered for a long-standing Easter tradition Saturday

Easter celebrations have been underway since Good Friday across the metro. Saturday, the Greater Belhaven community gathered for a long-standing Easter tradition. Dozens of eager kids brought their buckets as they searched for the golden egg at Laurel Street Park. Hundreds of candy-filled eggs were hidden all around. One young hunter expressed her excitement about finding the shiny prize. “I won two golden eggs, so that means I win, ” Princess Heaven said. The eggs were collected and placed by volunteer women in the community. Mary Alex Thigpen, Executive Director of Greater Belhaven Foundation, said “Belhaven is a small neighborhood and it’s really more of a small town, more of a community so we try to do a lot of events like these that bring people out.” The kids also got a chance to take pictures with the Easter bunny.
