The Keokuk Fire Department responded at about 8 a.m. Sunday to 1306 Oak St. for the report of a home that was fully engulfed in flame.

The department responded to find that the home was quickly being destroyed by the fire and worked quickly to get their hoses attached to a nearby hydrant to begin the work to knock down the flames.

Assistant Chief Pat McNally said via press release the firefighters found fire on the left side of the home, working its way into the rest of the house.

Several loud pops came from the home as the firefighters started to work.

It was reported on radio traffic that the home was occupied. All people where out of the structure when the fire department arrived, McNally said. There were no reports of injuries.

All off-duty firefighters were called to assist at the scene. Lee County EMS, Keokuk Emergency Corps and the Keokuk Police Department also assisted on the call.

The department has not release possible cause for the fire as of press time Sunday, saying the incident is still under investiagion. According to online real estate records, the home was owner-occupied by Anna Russell. The home was insured.
