Meridian police Officer Kennis Croom, who was killed last week in the line of duty, will be remembered by friends, family and fellow officers in the coming days.A group of Jackson police officers left in a motorcade traveling to Meridian to attend Croom’s memorial service, which is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Meridian High School. Croom was originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and once worked for the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, the Terry Police Department and spent almost three years with the Jackson Police Department. “He will truly be missed. He gave the ultimate sacrifice,” said JPD Assistant Chief Joe Wade. “We want to show respect to him, his family and our brothers and sisters at the Meridian Police Department.”A viewing is planned from noon to 4 p.m. Friday at Northport Funeral and Cremation Service in Northport, Alabama. A celebration of life will be held Saturday at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa.Croom was killed Thursday while responding to a disturbance call, where a woman, identified as Brittany Jones, was also killed. The next day, Dante Bender was captured by members of a U.S. Marshal Service task force.
