Gal Gadot reflects on being cast as Wonder Woman in the DC Universe on her 9-year anniversary as she looks towards the future of her franchise.

Gal Gadot reflects on being cast as Wonder Woman in the DC Universe on her 9-year anniversary while teasing the future of her superhero journey. One of the biggest and most iconic heroes in the DCU (formerly known as the DCEU) has always been Diana Prince, a.k.a. Wonder Woman. Played by Gadot, the DC heroine made her cinematic debut in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was a taste of the character before she starred in her own Wonder Woman movie the following year. While the DCU has changed over the years, Wonder Woman remains one of the most popular heroes in the entire franchise.

Everything We Know About Wonder Woman 3

DCEU Batman & Wonder Woman

While Wonder Woman 1984 faced issues with its box office results due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Warner Bros. Discovery is still making Wonder Woman 3, which currently has no release date set. Patty Jenkins, who helmed the first two installments, is set to direct and write Wonder Woman 3. According to Jenkins, in October, she had officially finished writing the script for the follow-up story. Even though it’s unclear if this will be the case, Gadot has previously expressed that Wonder Woman 3 should take place in the present time rather than be in another time period again, similar to Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984.

Whether they will actually set Wonder Woman 3 in the present time remains to be seen, but given Gadot and Jenkins’ close collaboration over the films, it wouldn’t be shocking if this will be the case for the trilogy finale. This will also be the first Wonder Woman movie to be produced under the new regime at DC Studios, with James Gunn and Peter Safran as the co-CEOs taking charge of the DCU. Even though it remains to be seen when Wonder Woman 3 will start filming and when it will actually be released, there are already plans to go beyond the trilogy. According to Jenkins, she has Wonder Woman 4 in mind, meaning Gadot’s time in the franchise is likely not going to be over any time soon.

Hopefully, with DC Studios now in full operation, it won’t be long until more details about Wonder Woman 3 start to come out. That is possibly a reason why there has not been any set principal photography date for the film yet, as Jenkins may be working with Gunn and Safran to see how the film fits into their master plan for the DCU. But with Wonder Woman being one of the DC trinity, it’s hard to imagine Diana not being a crucial part of DC Studios’ strategy as they go forward. With the next Wonder Woman film being in the works, time will tell what is in store for Diana’s future in the franchise.
