The internet’s favorite picture-making AI program DALL-E creates a hilarious mash-up image of Pikachu and Harley Quinn on the beach.
Harley Quinn holds Pikachu on the beach in hilarious and disturbing new AI-generated images. The program DALL-E is an AI that starts with text prompts and uses them to generate bizarre and surrealistic images. Naturally the internet has taken to the program in a big way, using its powers to make the strangest and most hilarious mash-ups imaginable.
DALL-E has indeed been busy in recent weeks making fans’ dreams of strange and wonderful crossovers come true. One recent image for example brought the worlds of Marvel and Nickelodeon together by imagining Avatar Aang and Spider-Man becoming friends. Another mash-up image brought together two of the world’s favorite heroes as Captain America met Baby Yoda. Yet another mash-up image imagined Sonic the Hedgehog soaring into the skies with Rooster and Maverick from Top Gun: Maverick.
The power of DALL-E to generate crazy and random mash-ups indeed seems unlimited. As further proof, a new image brings together the worlds of Pokémon and DC, as two fan-favorite characters finally meet. The prompt “Harley Quinn holds Pikachu on the beach” leads to an impressive mosaic which can be seen in the space below:
Pikachu of course is the most famous of all Pokémon characters, even getting his own live-action/animated feature film Detective Pikachu, with Ryan Reynolds giving voice to the little yellow creature. Harley Quinn meanwhile is an iconic character from the Batman animated universe who of course has crossed over to the comics and been brought to live-action life by Margot Robbie. And indeed the world’s fascination with Harley Quinn seems to have no end, as Lady Gaga is reportedly in line to play the character in Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix’s upcoming Joker sequel.
Outside of their both being well-known animated characters, Harley Quinn and Pikachu don’t seem to have a lot in common. But of course the entire point of these DALL-E mash-ups is to bring together characters who otherwise wouldn’t seem to have any chance of being seen together in the same world. On the one hand, Pikachu seems like much too happy and innocent a character to interact with the relatively dark Harley Quinn. But on the other hand, there is often something weirdly innocent and naive about Quinn, a character who seems to take a lot of joy in the chaos she creates. And of course it’s well-known that Quinn has a soft spot for furry little adorable guys like Pikachu. So perhaps it’s not such a huge stretch to imagine Harley and the Pokémon heading to the beach for a little fun in the sun. As long as things didn’t take an unnecessarily dark turn along the way.
