Two Milwaukee beer sign collectors said thieves stole their heavy and historic Schlitz beer sign displayed on the front porch of their building. Brewtown Collectibles’ Todd and Sonja Brown told sister station WISN that the theft happened Tuesday night at their Bay View building on Bay Street near Kinnickinnic Avenue. The four-sided Schlitz sign dates back to 1964. “It used to hang on top of the Northern Pines Resort in Butternut, Wisconsin,” his wife Sonja told WISN. Todd said it stands 5.5 feet tall and weighs 250 pounds. They’d just acquired it Sunday. Todd said he was on his way to get a large lock to secure the sign to their front porch Tuesday when the thieves showed up. Security footage shows a dark pick-up truck pull up to the front of the building and two people get out. Fast forward 30 seconds, they eventually back the truck up to the porch with the tailgate down and slide the heavy collectible in the back before taking off. Milwaukee police confirm the theft report as the Browns now plead for the historic artifact’s safe return.”It’s a piece of history that can’t be replaced. Please don’t scrap it. Just return it,” Sonja said directly to the thieves she hopes are listening. “It’s a piece of Wisconsin history!” Todd added.
