Hot and steamy Fourth of July with afternoon pop-up storms

Volunteers, spectators and runners will be heading to the Watermelon Classic this morning for the Fourth of July tradition. Temperatures will remain in the 80s throughout the race but it will quickly feel like the 90s to 100 degrees by 9 and 10 a.m.Highs today will peak back in the mid 90s with feels like temperatures between 105 and 115 degrees. An excessive heat warning is in effect today because of this. Afternoon pop ups and storms will be likely today through early evening, giving a brief dose of heat relief today. Like yesterday, temperatures will be very slow to cool overnight, eventually returning to the mid to upper 70s by the morning. Highs Friday will be closer to seasonal, low 90s, with feels like temperatures up to 110 degrees. Rain and storm chances will be greater Friday with pop ups by late morning and scattered storms through the afternoon and evening. Over the weekend, temperatures will remain in the mid to low 70s in the morning with highs in the mid to low 90s. Feels like temperatures will stick to the upper 90s to around 105 degrees. On and off scattered storms will be possible. Next week, temperatures will remain in the upper 80s to low 90s with feels like temperature in the upper 90s. Extra clouds and rain chances will help limit the extreme heat. Storms will be on and off each day with some days having higher rain chances than others. A landfall is expected early tomorrow morning as a weakening storm.Confidence is increasing with a north Mexico/south Texas landfall early next week. Tracks are showing some re-intensification back to hurricane status prior to landfall early Monday. Mississippi will not face impacts from Beryl directly, but this will affect coastal rip currents for the Fourth of July weekend.
