Perhaps the strongest boss in all of Persona 4 Golden is The Reaper, an optional enemy you can fight after opening a certain number of chests on your journeys within the Midnight Channel. Your team will need to use every strategy they can to defeat this powerful Shadow. However, you can make this battle easier by taking the right steps to prepare for this endgame challenge.

The Reaper is encountered when you open 20 different chests during an expedition to the Midnight Channel with your party of characters. While The Reaper in Persona 5 Royal was encountered when you explore too long in the Metaverse, these conditions make the boss’ appearance more predictable. This allows you to know exactly when the Avatar of Death will show up as you get ready for the boss fight.

Opening a Golden Chest will reset the counter going up to 20 needed to summon The Reaper. You’ll know when the Reaper is approaching by the sound of chains rattling throughout the dungeon your party is in.

Strategies For Beating The Reaper In Persona 4 Golden

Form A Strong Party And Avoid The Boss’ Strongest Attacks

Persona 4 Golden Reaper Fight

The Reaper is considered an endgame boss that you need to be at least Level 75 to stand a chance against. It’s a good idea to have the Social Links for your party maxed out to bring out their strongest Personas in anticipation of this grueling fight. No matter what party you decide to form, you should try to meet all the Social Link deadlines in Persona 4 Golden to make sure everyone has their best skills and abilities.

As far as your own Persona, keep in mind that The Reaper is immune to Light and Dark-based attacks, making a variety of strong abilities useless against this boss. The Reaper does not have any super-effective weaknesses either, as every attack does neutral damage. Try to make a powerful Persona using the Fusion system in Persona 4 Golden that has strong enough DPS and support to combat The Reaper.

The best party you could use for the fight against The Reaper is:

Character

Role

Best Combat Strategy

Yu (Main Character)

Support/Healer

Bring a Persona with Deliberate to debuff The Reaper. Act as the healer and restore your party’s health whenever possible.

Kanji

Damage

Cast Matarukaja and Primal Force to deal tons of damage to The Reaper consistently.

Yosuke

Support

Use Sukukaja to raise evasion on each party member. Once evasion is set, use Brave Blade until it wears off before repeating this process.

Chie

Damage

Activate Power Charge to buff damage, then use God Hand to deal Severe damage to The Reaper.

Yu is the most important character in this team since they can heal any character that has been taken down by The Reaper’s deadly one-hit-KO move. Attack with Kanji and Chie to deal as much damage to the boss as possible and end the fight quickly. Managing to use every trick and strategy to beat The Reaper in Persona 4 Golden will reward you with an Omnipotence Orb, which allows a holder to block all elemental attacks.
