Jeremy Allen White responds to thirsty viral tweets from fans about his character on FX’s The Bear, the sizzling young chef Carmy Berzatto. The new series follows the former Shameless star as a world renowned chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago to run his family’s sandwich shop, The Original Beef, after the death of his brother, Michael. White leads The Bear‘s diverse cast alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Abby Elliott. Some of the show’s high-profile guest stars include Molly Ringwald, Joel McHale, and Jon Bernthal.

Since premiering June 23 on FX on Hulu, The Bear has been met with rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, currently sitting at a perfect 100% critical score and a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Created and written principally by Ramy‘s Christopher Storer, The Bear has been praised particularly for its realistic depiction of working in a fast-paced kitchen, bolstered by strong performances from a relatively unknown cast. While White has received much praise for embodying the dedicated young chef, Carmy has also become a popular internet boyfriend, resulting in various thirsty tweets online.

In a recent interview with Vulture, White responds to those who find his character on The Bear attractive. While the Shameless star doesn’t have his own Twitter account, his friends have shown him some tweets from fans thirsting for Carmy. Read White reaction’s below:

I am aware. I don’t have Twitter, but friends will send me stuff every once in a while. [Laughs.] I don’t know, I guess it’s nice? I’m also like, Chefs are hot. I’m wearing the uniform, you know what I mean? I think people are just getting tricked.

The Bear Supporting Cast Characters

The interviewer mentions one thirsty tweet in particular showing a picture of Carmy and featuring a caption that reads, “I’m too scared to watch The Bear because I’m actively in therapy to stop falling in love with men who look like this.” On The Bear, Carmy’s look is defined by his disheveled long hair and arm tattoos, which White actually created himself in collaboration with a professional tattoo artist. The actor cites the process as a great exercise for creating a background for a particular character. While Storer and White’s intentions were to create a conflicted and nuanced lead character for The Bear in Carmy, he’s unintentionally ignited a very vocal portion of Twitter who seem to find the young chef irresistible.

White will gladly take any attention and free marketing The Bear can get. The FX show is coming off a critically-acclaimed first season, though as is the case with any television series, its chances for a season 2 renewal rest largely upon its ratings. Whether the show suffers an untimely cancellation or White carries The Bear into a season 2 remains to be seen. Until then, audiences can see television’s latest heartthrob, Carmy, in all eight episodes of The Bear season 1, now streaming on Hulu.
