Laser device can scan multiple vehicles at once

The Jackson Police Department is cracking down on speeders.Officers are using handheld laser devices that can catch drivers speeding from 2,000 feet away. Not only that, but the device can clock the speed of multiple vehicles simultaneously. JPD DUI Enforcement Officer Harrison Matory said, “These are almost like binoculars. They look like it. What it is, we have a red dot that we put on the front of the vehicle as it’s coming towards you.”Chief Joseph Wade said, “You’re not going 100 mph through Pearl, Clinton, Byram, Ridgeland or Madison, so you’re not going to do it here in the city of Jackson.””Those days of just going out riding around and seeing what you can find is over. It’s more strategic. We are assigning our traffic unit to different locations. Whether it’s I-20, I-220 and I-55.”JPD said they have averaged 300 traffic citations within a week.
