Kate Bush still can’t believe her 1985 hit “Running Up That Hill” just became her first-ever top 10 single in the U.S. Following the song’s use in Netflix’s latest season of Stranger Things, she released a rare statement thanking listeners. Now, Bush has taken to her website again to share even more thoughts. “It’s all so exciting!” she wrote on her website. “Since the last post, ‘Running Up That Hill’ has gone to No. 1 in Norway and Austria. This is such great news and we just heard today that it’s up from No. 8 to No. 4 in the U.S.”

“The track is being responded to in so many positive ways. I’ve never experienced anything quite like this before!” continued Bush. “I just want to say a really big thank you to everyone in the U.S. who has supported the song. It’s the first time I’ve had a top ten single over there and now it’s in the top 5! Thank you so much again to the Duffer Brothers – because of their latest, extraordinary series of Stranger Things, the track is being discovered by a whole new audience.”

“Running Up That Hill” originally appeared on Bush’s celebrated fifth album Hounds of Love, which she self-produced and composed largely with a Fairlight CMI—a groundbreaking digital sampling synthesizer. The single plays a key role and serves as a motif throughout the current season of Stranger Things. It’s also the favorite song of the character Max Mayfield, played by Sadie Sink.

Following the song’s appearance in Stranger Things, “Running Up That Hill” has gone viral online, with streams multiplying by the thousands over the past week. The single was also covered by Kim Petras.
