A man indicted in the grisly murders of a Louisiana mother and her daughter is facing new federal charges.Daniel Callihan was in court Friday, where he was federally charged with kidnapping that resulted in death, and transporting across state lines in connection with the kidnapping of Callie Brunett’s children, Erin and Jalie.The maximum penalty for the federal kidnapping charge is life imprisonment or death. The mandatory minimum for the transporting across state lines charge is 10 years in prison, while the maximum is life imprisonment.Callihan was in federal court last week in Mississippi, where he waived his right to a preliminary hearing and a detention hearing for the capital murder and sexual battery charges he is facing in Jackson.Callihan requested to be transferred back to the Eastern District of Louisiana to face the charges in Tangipahoa Parish.His lawyer, Kerry Cuccia, who is representing him on the charges in Tangipahoa Parish has also been assigned by the federal public defender’s office to represent Callihan on pending federal charges in Louisiana.Callihan has already been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated kidnapping and one count of second-degree kidnapping.Mississippi authorities said they would pursue charges against Callihan after court proceedings in Louisiana.He admitted to WDSU that he committed the murders and said he wanted a lethal injection for what he did.Callihan’s next federal court date is scheduled for July.
