A Canton man was hospitalized following a shoot-out involving police officers at a Ridgeland apartment complex. According to Ridgeland police Chief Brian Myers, officers were responding to a domestic situation at Ridgeland Place Apartment on William Boulevard Saturday after 9 p.m. Myers said when officers attempted to make contact with the individuals involved, shots were fired at them. An officer returned fire and a stand-off ensued, with the occupants barricaded in an apartment.Keithannia Cortez Stark, 28, eventually surrendered and was placed in handcuffs. Stark was bleeding from the chest following the stand-off and was transported to UMMC for medical attention. He remains in the hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown. Stark faces charges for Domestic Violence-Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. Ridgeland Police Department’s Special Response Team, Madison County Sheriff’s Department’s SWAT Team responded to the active scene. Madison Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Department personnel also assisted on the perimeter.The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
