Mississippi Democrats are speaking out on calls to replace President Joe Biden on the ticket. WAPT News spoke with two party insiders standing squarely behind President Joe Biden after his performance during the CNN presidential debate with former President Donald Trump.State Rep. Earle Banks is a delegate and Jacqueline Amos is a super delegate to the Democratic National Convention. They will join hundreds of other party leaders from all across the nation when they gather in Chicago in August to renominate Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Banks and Amos said they’re not worried about the perceptions of the president’s performance and that they are committed to seeing him re-elected because he’s looking out for all Americans. “I have no second thoughts about President Biden being the nominee. Based on what I heard, based on what happened, based on the lies that Rump told — I have no doubt,” Banks said.Amos said the state’s Democratic Party received calls all day Friday from people who are seeking to volunteer in support of Biden. “Concerned Mississippians we have never heard from before are mobilizing themselves against the threats the Republicans represent to our way of life. We are building a grassroots team the likes of which Mississippi has never seen,” Amos said. “This election is not a choice between two people. It is a choice between two worlds. I know which world I want for my grandchildren, and I believe most Americans want the world the Democratic Party is working to create together.”Biden, the 81-year-old Democratic incumbent, entered the debate with the chance to reassure voters that he’s capable of guiding the U.S. through a host of challenges as he moved to sharpen the choice voters will face in November. Trump, 78, had the opening to try to move past his felony conviction in New York and convince an audience of tens of millions that he is temperamentally suited to return to the Oval Office.The Associated Press contributed to this article.
