A joint news conference is being held Monday to provide an update on the case against a man accused of killing a Louisiana woman and kidnapping her children, killing one of them in Jackson. “June 13 was a very tragic day, a very sad day. Suspects Daniel Callihan and Victoria Cox face several state and federal charges in Mississippi and Louisiana, including charges of first-degree murder, sexual battery and kidnapping. “I still have more questions than answers, and we hope more answers will become available,” Jackson police Chief Joseph Wade said. “I still have more questions than answers, and we hope more answers will become available.”Wade said that the crime scene in Jackson had been worked out thoroughly.”A lot of evidence is going to be revealed later, after forensic tests are completed,” Wade said. She asked anyone with information who could help investigators come forward. Lt. Gen. James Herzog, director of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, said the investigation is ongoing. Herzog said tips from the public continue to help investigators.Callihan, 36, is accused of killing Brunett, 35, in Louisiana and abducting her two children. Authorities said he took them to Boozier Drive in Jackson, where he is accused of killing Brunett’s 4-year-old daughter, Erin. Brunett’s 6-year-old daughter survived the attack but was injured.Wade said he believes the 4-year-old was suffocated, but a medical examiner would have to make that determination.”We will hold these individuals accountable for their actions,” Wade said.Tindell said Callihan and Cox will be tried in Mississippi and in Louisiana.Callihan appeared before a federal court judge Friday. His attorney said Callihan waived his right to a preliminary detention hearing in order to be transferred to the Eastern District of Louisiana. It is unclear when that will happen.
