MVSU Coach Dancy resigns to join Coach Prime in Colorado

Mississippi Valley State University head football coach Vincent Dancy has resigned to take a job with Deion Sanders in Colorado.Dancy led the Delta Devils for the past five seasons. The university announced Dancy’s resignation Thursday, “for a Power Five coaching opportunity” with Coach Prime, who is the new head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes.Sanders announced the same day that Jackson State University won the SWAC Championship that he took the coaching job at the University of Colorado Boulder. Dancy, a Mississippi native, ends his time at MVSU as the fifth-longest tenured coach in program history. He won nine games from 2018-2022. “Over the past four seasons, Coach Vincent Dancy has helped to mold Mississippi Valley State University into one of the most competitive football programs in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Coach Dancy has represented MVSU and the football program well in that time as the 17th head coach,” said Athletic Director Hakim McClellan said in a statement. Ahead of Jackson State’s September 24 matchup with MVSU, Coach Prime had high praise for his then SWAC rival and said he he wanted to help Dancy out.”I admire him. I pray for him. I love him dearly as a brother. I wish I could help him even more with the tribulations and trials that he has there,” Sanders said in a press conference on September 20. Defensive coordinator Javier Gonzalez has been named interim head coach while a nationwide search is underway for a permanent replacement.
