A new cosplay shoot proves Namor the Sub-Mariner needs Triton, of the Inhumans, as a partner. Namor and Triton are both creatures of the sea, more at home in the water than they are on land, and cosplayer @emg_cosplays makes a convincing case for these two undersea titans to join forces. And, judging by the reactions, the fans agree!

Triton first appeared in 1965’s Fantastic Four #45, created by the legendary team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Triton is a member of the Inhumans, who derive their powers from the Terrigen Mists; as children, the Inhumans are subjected to the Mists, which then causes their powers to manifest. The Mists gave Triton the ability to breathe underwater, as well as the fins and webbing he would need to maneuver underwater. Unfortunately, Triton cannot breathe unaided on the surface world and relies on devices to help which largely confines his activities to the ocean. Triton is also part of the Inhumans Royal Family and cousin to the king, Black Bolt. Triton made the leap to live action, appearing in The Inhumans television show, played by Mike Moh. Being an aquatic creature, Triton has come into contact with Namor the Sub-Mariner on several occasions, and the two have become friends. Now, on the eve of Namor’s MCU debut, cosplayer @emg_cosplays has unveiled a shoot celebrating two of Marvel’s aquatic adventurers, making the case for an MCU team-up.

In a series of two photos uploaded to Instagram, @emg_cosplay unveiled the shoot. The first photo depicts @emg_cosplay as Triton who is posed and ready for battle. And, the second shoot depicts @emg_cosplay again as Triton, but is this time paired up with cosplayer @namorcosplay, who, as the name suggests, is decked out as the Alantean prince. In both photos, both cosplayers have created comic-book-accurate renditions of Namor and Triton. The second photo makes the case for their MCU team-up. Fans have responded enthusiastically to the shoot, giving each photo over 200 likes each.

Namor and Triton Is the Aquatic Marvel Team-Up Fans Didn’t Know They Needed

Both Namor and Triton call the ocean their home, and are friends in the comics. This makes an MCU team-up a possibility. Namor will inject the MCU with new life, bringing Atlantis with him to opening up new avenues for stories in the process–including meeting Triton. The Inhumans have been established to exist in the MCU as well, further increasing the chances for the two to cross paths.

Unfortunately, Marvel’s Inhumans show was poorly-received by both fans and critics. Furthermore, Black Bolt himself was killed in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, calling the Inhumans’ exact status further into question. However, pairing Triton with Namor could be a great way to rehabilitate the character, and restore him in fans’ eyes. @emg_cosplay’s new shoot makes the case for a Namor and Triton team-up to happen.
