Officer adopts kitten he saved along California highway

An officer with the California Highway Patrol has adopted the kitten he helped save along a highway in Monterey.Officer Ryan Moore was called out to the scene on Friday, June 14, when he received a call about a kitten running in the middle of the lanes. On his first attempt to grab the kitten, she got scared and ran across the lanes. Before he tried to catch her again, he decided to briefly stop traffic to reduce the risk of the kitten getting run over. Once traffic was stopped, Officer Moore said his hand was a foot away, but she jumped into the wheel well of a Prius and crawled up behind the engine next to the fuel tank. He was forced to call SPCA Monterey County to assist with the rescue. The supervisor on scene determined that the animal was in a safe place, and he and the driver of the Prius could slowly drive to his nearby work parking lot so they could perform the rescue.A camera on a wire was used to locate her, and after the removal of a few car parts, the kitten was pulled out to safety. The SPCA named her Chippy in honor of the CHP officers that helped rescue her.Officer Moore, his daughter Hadlee, and his son Alden are happy to welcome Chippy into their family.
