Outriders Worldslayer features a new campaign, tougher enemies, powerful loot, and an improved endgame aimed towards attracting new and old players.

Outriders Worldslayer is a massive DLC addition to the base Outriders game, developed by People Can Fly and published by Square Enix. The DLC features a new campaign adventure, new levels, redesigned areas and hubs, and more endgame content for players to conquer. While the base game released to mixed reviews, its recent New Horizons patch overhauled and improved dozens of systems, redeeming its core mechanics. Outriders Worldslayer keeps that momentum going, enhancing the game’s greatest strengths while introducing a few recurring bugs that ruin momentum and combat pacing.

Outriders Worldslayer picks up where the story ended, with the player character embarking with their crew to Glacier’s Edge to retrieve the last drop pod. Unfortunately, the temporary peace claimed in the game’s finale doesn’t last long, as it’s quickly revealed the Anomaly is becoming more unstable. To make matters worse, Channa (the crew’s Psychic) predicts that the Outrider will die if they try to interfere with the coming cataclysm. Worldslayer introduces new areas and reimagines familiar locations, such as Rift Town, all while expanding on the world’s lore. Unfortunately, story content has never been the game’s strong suit, and the campaign’s resolution is slightly underwhelming. The Worldslayer campaign unlocks once players reach Character Level 30 and complete the base game’s campaign. However, players should complete all activities they’d like before embarking on their next adventure.

In Outriders Worldslayer, players can collect new, powerful loot and experience a revamped endgame, which remedies one of the game’s biggest shortcomings. The DLC’s story wraps up loose ends from Outriders and provides fresh, significant challenges in dangerous, new areas. Most of the game’s levels feature a linear design, but there are plenty of secrets and side quests to uncover once Outriders venture beyond their objective markers. Worldslayer’s creative level design ensures all playstyles are viable throughout the campaign, allowing players to utilize the game’s updated arsenal of weaponry and armor.

Whether players have already completed the Outriders campaign, or are using the game’s Level 30 boost to access Worldslayer immediately, the game provides four unique classes to enjoy: Technomancer, Pyromancer, Trickster, and Devastator. Worldslayer offers new ways for players to customize these classes and abilities, with unique offensive combinations to use against powerful enemies. Each class’s strengths and weaknesses enable single-player and multiplayer gameplay, but some are better suited to fighting in a party. Worldslayer’s bosses and enemies don’t require overly complicated strategies to defeat, but feature unique designs to improve replayability.

The Outriders Worldslayer DLC doesn’t drastically change the game’s visuals but utilizes its graphics and particles to create haunting levels. In the first two hours, players can explore a dynamic, icy wasteland and haunted fishing village conquered by the Insurgents. Battling through a snowstorm and a thunderstorm creates an immersive environment that gives Worldslayer a sense of genuine urgency. Unfortunately, the DLC’s beautiful graphics and designs come with some bugs. It’s not unusual for enemies to become stuck on different objects in the world, and players can be knocked back into inescapable positions, forcing them to reload a save. The increased particles and number of enemies can also cause occasional lag, which can be particularly troublesome in combat.

Though Outriders has dramatically improved since launch, Worldslayer still features some irritating bugs affecting its overall quality. The most common glitch includes characters rolling randomly during combat without players initiating the action. This unintentional dodging can cause characters to cancel abilities, move into danger, and ruin the flow of battle. There is also the risk of voice lines talking over one another, or triggering late and interrupting a cutscene, combat sequence, or ongoing conversation. However, the current bugs don’t overshadow Worldslayer‘s strengths and overall enjoyment, ensuring new and old players can enjoy the experience.

Many gamers likely remember Outriders‘ difficult launch on all platforms, which featured dozens of visual glitches, crashes, bland gameplay systems, and unfinished touches. However, the game’s previous New Horizons update and the Worldslayer DLC have redeemed it in many ways. Worldslayer‘s biggest appeal is its increased loot pool and finalized endgame, but players shouldn’t expect more than a few dozen hours of gameplay before running out of content. The existing bugs aren’t enough to completely ruin the DLC, and are likely to be fixed with a launch day patch or later update. Those who enjoyed Outriders after its New Horizons patch (or are looking for an opportunity to join the franchise) should experience Outriders Worldslayer.
