Poker Face season 2 gets a major update from creator Rian Johnson. Debuting on Peacock in January 2023, the murder mystery follows Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne, also an executive producer on the project), a private investigator with the uncanny ability to know when someone is lying, regardless of their alibi. On the run from a dangerous criminal, Cale travels across America in a yellow Plymouth Barracuda and finds some bizarre crimes to solve along the way. The ten-episode series was a hit for Peacock, appearing on Nielsen’s streaming charts, and Poker Face was quickly renewed for season 2.

Sharing an update on his Instagram Stories, Johnson confirmed that Poker Face season 2 has begun filming.

Johnson, who also directed three episodes of season 1 and wrote the finale, reacted to an image that revealed Lyonne will be once again stepping behind the camera to direct an episode. The Peacock Original, which is showrun by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, does not currently have a release date.

How Will Poker Face Season 2 Pick Up The Story?

Charlie Gets A Significant Phone Call

Even though the Poker Face season 1 ending solves one problem for Charlie, it creates another. Lyonne’s character gets a phone call from Beatrix Hasp (Rhea Perlman). Even though she escaped Cliff LeGrand (Benjamin Bratt), who is headed to jail after murdering Sterling Frost Sr. (Ron Perlman), the casino owner Hasp says that Charlie could work for her or potentially face a death sentence. Charlie chooses the latter, destroying her phone and setting off in her trusty 1969 Plymouth Barracuda.

The specific plot details of Poker Face season 2 remain under wraps. Still, it’s a sure bet that Charlie will continue to solve a new murder each week while dealing with the larger story. There’s also the chance that the upcoming episodes will expand on the strained relationship between Charlie and her sister Emily (Clea DuVall), which plays a big role in the finale.

10 Actors We’d Love To See In Poker Face Season 2

Poker Face season 1 had a huge cast full of great character actors and movie stars, and while it set a high bar, season 2’s cast can be even better.

One element of the Poker Face season 2 setup that’s yet to be determined is the show’s supporting cast. As is the case with The White Lotus and Johnson’s other murder mystery Knives Out, a lot of the appeal is who will join the ensemble and which pairs of actors will share the screen. In its first installment, the Peacock Original made some unexpected and brilliant choices, like an excellent turn from veteran actor Nick Nolte. With filming officially underway, casting details should be announced in the coming weeks and months.
