Reservoir police increase patrols for 4th of July weekend

Police are stepping up enforcement at the Reservoir for the 4th of July and the holiday weekend.Boaters and anyone else on board are required to wear life vests. Officers will be randomly stopping boats for safety checks.Reservoir Police Chief Carlos Dipuma said, “We don’t want families coming out here and seeing these other people that’s out here, that’s behind the wheel of their vessel that’s drinking, that’s showing out that could potentially hit another boat and injure, or worse, kill somebody. We don’t want that.”Police said there will be zero tolerance for people boating under the influence. Those suspected will have to take a field sobriety test on the water, and their boat could be impounded.The Reservoir Police will also be patrolling recreational areas adjacent to the lake like Pelahatchie Bay.
