Roberta Moore Wilson Mayfield passed from this life into eternity on May 21, 2022. Roberta was born on November 12, 1943 into the loving family of Virginia and Tom Wilson. From birth until death she loved and is loved by her Savior, family and friends. Dedicated to serving her Lord and others, she was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Como, Mississippi.
Her family home at 403 College Street in Senatobia for generations is where she played as child, walked to school, enjoyed her siblings, cousins, and friends. Growing up in such an idealistic time in Senatobia sealed her love and devotion for her home town and the people. She truly loved everyone and never met a stranger. Even traveling to Europe alone she said she loved meeting everyone along the way as she was very independent and courageous. God gave her a great strong spirit and dependence on Him to endure hardships and triumph even on the hardest day. She loved all music especially listening to her mother playing the organ and piano, dancing, cooking, gardening, flora and fauna, travel and art. She was a car enthusiast and enjoyed riding in her Thunderbird. Fiercely patriotic, the American flag was always flying in her heart. Graduating from Senatobia High School and then The University of Mississippi in Education, Roberta was a member of the Chi Omega sorority where she made many lifelong friends. She was crowned the Centennial Queen for Senatobia in 1960. Roberta taught school several years before venturing into real estate in Houston,Texas where she lived before moving back to Senatobia in the middle eighties. She enjoyed her shop on Front Street before continuing her real estate career. Her leadership for Senatobia Investment Company, the family LLC, for over twenty years was greatly appreciated. She was a member of the Magnolia Garden Club and Northwest Mississippi Community College Foundation. She was a member of the Foundation Board and helped develop the endowment scholarships for many students and families especially for her parents, Thomas and Virginia Moore Wilson as they had dedicated the land to NWCC for the Baptist Student Union. Virginia Trails at Hunter’s Creek on Wilson Road was her latest venture as a family donation of land for the community though the Coldwater River Nature Conservancy. She was a true advocate for NWCC and especially enjoyed attending the football games. Roberta was a founding member and past President of the Tate County Economic Development Foundation and served on Downtown Development committees as she was devoted to Senatobia growing and flourishing as the fifth generation of her family. Awarded the Citizen of the Year in 2012 was one of her most rewarding moments. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia Moore and Tom Presley Wilson, her brother-in-law, Ronald Day Veazey, great-niece,Sullivan Elise Miller and her cousin Patsy Moore Bogen. She is survived by the Love of her life, Johnny Miller, her siblings, Marianne Wilson Veazey, Harriet Wilson Goshorn( Neumon), Thomas Presley Wilson,Jr.(Sherry), nephews, Ron Veazey, Jr. (Michelle), Michael Joseph Massey, Jr. (Sydney), nieces, Ginger Veazey Tramel( Mike), Eason Veazey Iburg (Matt), Mary Elinor Goodwin(John), Virginia Wilson Duke(Sean), Elizabeth Roberta Massey Parker( Eric), Catherine Taylor Goshorn O’Malley (Trent), great-nieces and nephews, Veazey Tramel Reindl (Joe)Mary Garner Veazey Rees (Charles), Robert Wilson Tramel (Sarah), Ronald Day Veazey, lll, William Watkins Veazey( Lanie), James Thomas Veazey, John Thomas Parker, Matthew Dean Iburg, Hannah Elizabeth Parker, Steven Tucker Massey, Piper Wilson Massey, Elinor Jane Goodwin and Luke Hunter Goodwin, great-great nieces, Stella Reindl, Reese Reindl, and Sciple Rees.
A heartfelt thanks to all those dear friends and caregivers that loved Roberta throughout her life and were faithful to her to the end.
A Memorial service is scheduled for June 2 at 1:00 pm at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Como, MS, with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to send memorials may send them to Holy Innocents Episcopal Church,
