  • Robin and the Hoods
offers a modern twist on a classic tale with a group of children fighting to save their play area.
  • Starring Naomie Harris and Gwendoline Christie, the movie follows these imaginative kids against a real estate developer.
  • While not your typical
    Robin Hood
story, the film still captures themes of preserving power and community bonds.

The Robin and the Hoods trailer has already revealed a clever twist on the original myth. Starring Darcey Ewart, Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Naomie Harris (Skyfall), Dexter Sol Ansell (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight), and more, the movie is a Sky Cinema Original set to release this summer. While a popular Game of Thrones cast member is involved in its production, the tone of Robin and the Hoods is not quite as dark as Christie’s most well-known work.

Sky Cinema released the trailer on YouTube, and the footage reveals important insight into the adventures of Robin and her mysterious Hoods. While the knights and archers are prowling through the night, they are hardly in fitting shape for a real-world fight. Check out the trailer below:

Robin And The Hoods Features A Group Of Kids Playing Make-Believe

While the hunt for the next James Bond continues, Naomie Harris has elected to star in a movie about childhood adventures and perseverance alongside Gwendoline Christie. In it, a band of children, who regularly play at being knights and magicians, have to use their creativity and imagination to save their favorite play area from destruction. They are led by Darcey Ewart’s Robin, an 11-year-old who desperately hopes to stop a seemingly evil organization from turning their scrublands into a day-care facility.

Robin Hood (2018) Review: Taron Egerton Elevates This Modern Retelling

Robin Hood modernizes the classic story with some new ideas that don’t always work, but the tale of an outlaw hero is buoyed by Taron Egerton’s charm.

The trailer begins with a tongue-in-cheek depiction of warriors fighting with magic and swords, only for it to regularly flip back to children wielding cardboard shields and sunction cup arrows. The heroes meet Christie, who plays a hippie in the woods that the children assume is an evil cannibalistic witch. Harris, meanwhile, plays Clipboard, the real estate developer that serves as the overarching antagonist. While the Hoods try to save the day, it will be Clipboard’s job to dismiss their efforts and to destroy their imaginary kingdom.

Robin and the Hoods is not a traditional Robin Hood movie, given that the swords and arrows are all little more than children’s toys. Despite the smaller stakes, however, the themes of preserving power and wealth for less privileged communities remains a major element of the narrative. The bond between Robin and her Hoods is also profound, just like the original Robin Hood’s connection with the poor. It may not be a typical take, but the movie will still have strong connections with the legacy of the Robin Hood myth.
