Rolling Fork mayor confident tornado-devastated town will be back better than ever

>> THANK YOU, CONGRESSMAN. FIRST OF ALL, TO. SECRETARY MR. RECTOR. THE GOVERNOR OF THE GREAT STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AND ALL THE REPRESENTATIVES WHO ARE HERE FROM THIS GREAT STATE MAY HAVE FLAGS FROM VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI, ON BEHALF OF THIS ENTIRE COMMUNITY. FIRST, WE WANT TO SAY THANK YOU. WE WANT TO THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU’RE DOING FOR OUR FAMILIES HERE AND MAKING SURE THAT THE CITY OF ROLLING FORK WILL COME BACK BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR DISPLACED FAMILIES ARE TAKEN CARE OF. THAT’S BEING DONE. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEIR PRIORITIES FOR THEIR PERSONAL HYGIENE AND EVERYTHING THAT’S NEEDED IS IN PLACE. THIS IS BEING TAKEN CARE OF. WE’RE WELL ON OUR WAY TO BRINGING ROLLING FORK BACK TO WHERE IT ONCE WAS AND TO MAKE IT EVEN BETTER. ON BEHALF OF THE ENTIRE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THIS CITY, AGAIN, WE WANT TO THANK YOU. AND WE WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT WITHOUT YOUR HELP, THE VOLUNTEERS WE HAVE VOLUNTEERS HERE FROM AS FAR AWAY AS ARKANSAS, TENNESSEE, LOUISIANA. THEY ARE RIGHT HERE IN THE CITY OF ROLAND FOR HELPING US OUT. AND WE ARE THANKFUL FOR WHAT EVERYBODY IS DOING TO HELP US IN THIS DEVASTATING TIME. YOU KNOW, WE OFTEN WE KIND OF REMEMBER THOSE OF US WHO HAVE THIS IS A BIBLE BELT AND WE WERE ALL TAUGHT THAT A FAMILY, THAT PHRASE TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER. THIS IS A FAMILY, A FAMILY OF UNITY, A FAMILY OF STRENGTH. AND THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO MAKE THIS COMMUNITY COME BACK. ONCE AGAIN. AND LASTLY, I I’M NOT ONLY JUST THE MAYOR OF THIS COMMUNITY, BUT I’VE LOST PERSONAL FRIENDS. I’M ALSO THE LOCAL FUNERAL DIRECTOR. NOW I’M HAVING TO MEET MY FAMILIES. THOSE WHO HAVE LOST LOVED ONES AND HELP THEM MAKE IT THROUGH THIS TRAUMATIC TIME. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? I’M A FIRM BELIEVER THAT WHEN YOU DO RIGHT, RIGHT. WILL FOLLOW YOU. AND I THINK THAT I’VE BEEN PREPARED TO TAKE ON THIS TASK, AND I’M GOING TO DO IT IN THE NAME OF THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF ROLAND FOR AND OF THE MAN THAT I AM AND THAT GOD HAS MADE ME TO BE. SO I WANT TO THANK EACH OF YOU WHO ARE HERE FOR THAT. YOU HAVE DONE AND ALL THAT YOU WILL DO IN FUTUR

Mayor Eldridge Walker said he is confident Rolling Fork will come back better than ever after a tornado virtually leveled the city.Walker led Gov. Tate Reeves, leaders from FEMA and homeland security and members of the Mississippi Congressional delegation on a tour Sunday of the devastation. During a news conference following the tour, Walker thanked everyone for the response.”On behalf of this entire community, first we want to say thank you. We want to thank you for all you’re doing for the families of this community and making sure the city of Rolling Fork will come back bigger and better than ever before,” Walker said.The mayor said his priority was making sure displaced residents were taken care of, which he said is happening. He also thanked the volunteers from all over the state and the country to help with recovery efforts. Walker serves as a funeral director as well as the town’s mayor. “Now, I’m having to meet my families, those who have lost loved ones, and help them make it through this traumatic time,” Walker said. “But you know what? I’m a firm believer that when you do right, right will follow you. And I think that I’ve been prepared to take on this task and I am going to do it in the name of the mayor of Rolling Fork and the man that I am and the man that God has made me to be.”
