First, today’s weather:

Abundant sunshine. High: 66 Low: 38.

Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. Amid the city’s ongoing water problems, the Salvation Army of Jackson is hosting a water distribution drive-thru this Friday, Feb. 11. The drive-thru will take place at the Salvation Army Worship Center from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or until supplies last. Residents can receive a per-car load of one case of water and two 2.5-gallon boxes of water; if receiving for multiple families, cars must re-enter the line. (WJTV)
  2. After a two-year pandemic hiatus, one of Jackson’s biggest St. Patrick’s parades is slated to return. Hal’s St. Paddy’s Parade will return to the streets of downtown on Saturday, Mar. 26. The event doesn’t just celebrate the March holiday and the city of Jackson, but it also raises funds for Children’s of Mississippi. (WAPT Jackson)
  3. For the third time in just over a week, an abandoned Jackson hotel on Ellis Avenue caught fire Monday. According to Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Armond, crews believe the fire was caused by homeless people taking shelter from the cold. Though Chief Armond said he does not blame these individuals for their actions, he notes that this and similar outbreaks are “weighing humanity against safety.” (WAPT Jackson)
