Sam Smith and Kim Petras have won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The duo was recognized for the song “Unholy,” which was included on Smith’s 2023 album, Gloria. Smith and Petras beat out fellow nominees ABBA (“Don’t Shut Me Down”), Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran (“Bam Bam”), Coldplay and BTS (“My Universe”), and Post Malone and Doja Cat (“I Like You (A Happier Song)”).

During the acceptance speech, Smith let their collaborator take the microphone. Petras—the first transgender woman to win this award—paid tribute to the late artist Sophie for inspiring her, as well as her mother for her lifelong support.

Gloria is Smith’s fourth studio album, following 2020’s Love Goes. Along with “Unholy,” they released three other singles in the buildup to the album: “Love Me More,” “Gimme” and “I’m Not Here to Make Friends.” Petras’ latest album, Turn Off the Light, was released in 2019.
