The sister of a man accused of killing a Louisiana mother and her 3-year-old child says she has been warning Mississippi authorities about her brother’s questionable behavior for years. Dixie Hemphill is responding to the arrest of her brother, Daniel Callihan, in Jackson on Thursday. Callihan is accused of killing Callie Brunnett in Louisiana and abducting her two children. Authorities say he took them to Bozier Drive in Jackson where he killed Brunett’s 3-year-old daughter. While leaving Jackson police headquarters, Callahan admitted to the crimes he’s charged with.”I have no reason for what I did. All I want to say is that I was sober and only on Lexapro and I’m diagnosed with borderline multiple personality disorder,” said Callahan. Hemphill says her brother has been troubled his entire life and is a mastermind at crime. She says that his actions against Brunett’s family were horrific. She says her brother dated Brunett 13 years ago. “I met her kids twice…I feel so bad for parents just like why,” Hemphill said. Hemphill says she has gone to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Lincoln Sheriff’s Department regarding her brother’s behavior more than a year ago.She said Callihan once confessed to her that he molested a minor and he also took part in the death of a reported missing man.She said they did not take her seriously. “I just wanted someone to take us serious because look what happened and Lincoln County sheriff said that there was no merit to him killing anyone but then diagnose him with schizophrenia and let him walk out of those doors,” said Hemphill. She said that Callihan had goals of pursuing a life like his father. “He was classified as a serial killer and we even tried to tell MBI about this that he wanted to be a prodigy of his dad and he was writing his own book except he was going to succeed his dad and he has,” Hemphill said. Lincoln County Sheriff said they did not ignore Hemphill’s warnings. “There was an allegation made against him on a sexual battery case that case was investigated and presented to a grand jury … The grand jury did not indict him for any of those charges,” said Sheriff Steve Rushing. He says there was just not enough evidence to indict Callihan on these allegations. We reached out to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and did not receive a comment.
