Smith County Sheriff’s Office arrest suspect in murder-for-hire plot

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook Wednesday announcing a significant arrest back on June 23 for a murder-for-hire plot.According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Department, Randall Hutchinson was apprehended as he attempted to leave town.The investigation revealed Hutchinson approached an individual with an offer to murder two Smith County residents on his behalf in exchange for paying $12,000. Hutchinson provided the individual with a firearm, gloves, and ammunition intended for use in the crimes. “With the quick actions of our Investigators, we were able to intervene and prevent a potentially tragic outcome,” Sheriff Joel Houston said. “We want to assure the residents of Smith County that we take threats to public safety very seriously. Our swift response and collaboration with law enforcement agencies have led to the apprehension of the suspect and the disruption of this dangerous plan.”Hutchinson is now facing two felony charges related to an attempt to commit an offense of murder and is set on a $100,000 bond.The case has been turned over to the District Attorney’s Office of the 13th district for prosecution.
