Joe Quinn, who plays Eddie Munson in Stranger Things, teases the astonishing scale of the season 4 finale, as well as an epic guitar scene.
Stranger Things star Joe Quinn has teased details about the upcoming season 4 finale. The series, which premiered on Netflix in 2016, follows a group of townsfolk living in the fictional idyll of Hawkins, Indiana, which is located over a dangerous parallel dimension known as the Upside Down, from which various monsters have emerged over the course of several years in the early to mid-1980s. Although pandemic-related delays made it so that there was a three-year gap between seasons 3 and 4, the first part of the new season dropped on the streaming service on May 27. The season is set to conclude with a two-episode drop (including a finale that is a two-hour movie) on July 1, followed by Stranger Things season 5, which will be the series’ final outing.
One of the standout characters this season has been newcomer Eddie Munson, played by British actor Joe Quinn of the series Dickensian. Munson is a metalhead bearing an enormous teased hairdo that reaches for the heavens. In addition to playing the electric guitar for his garage band Corroded Coffin, he is the leader of the Hellfire Club, a Dungeons & Dragons group that Dustin and Mike join toward the beginning of the season. Over the course of the season, he witnesses the murder of popular girl Chrissy and goes into hiding.
Per Deadline, Quinn recently spoke to the Guardian about what’s coming next on the landmark series. According to him, the two-episode Stranger Things finale has an “astonishing” scale and features “a guitar scene.” While he obviously had to be cagey about the details, he added that he hopes they invite him to come back in season 5, which might imply that his character survives the end of the season. I can say there’s a guitar scene and that the scale and ambition are astonishing. I’ll be furious if they don’t bring me back. I’d love to, if they’ll have me.
Considering Munson’s proclivities, it’s not exactly shocking that he gets the chance to play guitar in the final episode. However, given the gravity and scale of the Stranger Things season 4 finale, it’s likely that this will be more than just shredding, perhaps making his guitar skills the key to unlocking some major moment on their adventure. In fact, he may find himself playing the Kate Bush song “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God),” the song that has been used repeatedly throughout the season to ground Max when her mind is separated from her body.
It wouldn’t be shocking if Stranger Things found more uses for the iconic Kate Bush track, which they have already popularized to the point that it has now topped charts for the first time over 30 years after its release. However, even if Munson plays guitar for a totally separate reason, it is sure to be an image ripped straight from the cover of an ’80s metal album. Thankfully, fans don’t have long to wait to find out exactly what he means.
