THE EVENT IS HELD EACH YEAR TO RAISE PUBLIC AWARENESS OF ALL TYPES OF LEARNING AND EDUCATION OPTIONS FOR CHILDREN. THIS INCLUDES TRADITIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS, PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOLS, MAGNET SCHOOLS, ONLINE LEARNING, PRIVATE LEARNING AND HOME SCHOOLING. I THINK IT’S VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE OPTION TO WATCH OUT, TO CHOOSE WHAT SCHOOL THEY GO TO, MAINLY BECAUSE IT’S LIKE, IS THERE EDUCATION IN WHAT THEY WANT TO DO WHEN THEY GROW UP? Students, teachers, and elected officials gathered at the Capitol building to highlight Mississippi’s School Choice. This event is held every year to raise awareness of the different types of learning and education options for children. Public, public charter, magnet, online learning, private, and homeschooling programs were all included today. Erin Williams from Midtown Public Charter School said, “I think it’s very important for a child to have the option to choose what school they want to go to because it’s their education and what they want to do when they grow up.”There are only eight charter schools in the state, and supporters of school choice hope that more charter schools can be approved, given the opportunity for additional funding.
