    season 2.

Sugar season 2 gets an optimistic update from producer Audrey Chon. Debuting in April, the Apple TV+ Original follows Colin Farrell as private investigator John Sugar as he tries to solve the mystery of a disappearance that’s tied to the wealthy Siegel family. With a cast that also includes Kirby, Amy Ryan, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Alex Hernandez, Anna Gunn, Sydney Chandler, and James Cromwell, Sugar made headlines for a twist that isn’t revealed until late in the story.

In an interview with TheWrap, Chon gave an optimistic update on the chances of Sugar season 2. Chon, an executive producer alongside Farrell, talked about the twist and how the story could evolve if the show were renewed, but also confirmed that elements of season 1 would continue. She said in part: “There’s so much more to dig into in terms of the exploration of [John’s] character.” Read the full remarks below:

We would love to get a second season, and we’re ready to make one. I’d love to see the evolution of Sugar’s character. There were so many things that we had to hide the ball with. There’s so much more to dig into in terms of the exploration of his character. But there would be other elements from Season 1 that we love that we would obviously continue as well.

It felt very organic to have the PI and alien reveal blend together in a way. We love how seamless it felt that you could almost interchange them, and it would work, because you’re seeing the world through a very distinct perspective.

Sugar Season 2 Has A Ton Of Potential Stories

Farrell’s Character Decided To Continue As A Private Eye

The finale of Sugar season 1 does not end on a complete cliffhanger that demands a follow-up. The investigation is resolved, and the twist of Farrell’s character being an alien is revealed by the end of episode 8. The rest of the aliens, largely due to the fact that they have been exposed and are facing pressure from humans, decide to return home. John Sugar, however, chooses to remain on Earth. But even in a largely contained conclusion, as Chon indicates, there are paths forward.

Sugar‘s closing episode, which was written by Donald Joh and Sam Catlin, with Fernando Meirelles directing, reveals that fellow alien Henry (Jason Butler Herner) sat and watched a human being tortured. Henry also refuses to leave Earth behind, and Sugar believes it’s his responsibility to find Henry and control what seems to be the character’s dark impulses. There is also the fact that the aliens who do stay behind are being hunted and killed, causing a massive risk for Farrell’s titular character.

Sugar Episode 6’s Ending Twist Explained: What Is Colin Farrell’s Character?

Sugar’s episode 6 finally drops the Apple TV+ show’s highly anticipated twist, revealing a lot about the main character’s identity & potential motives

The first installment of the Apple TV+ detective drama did a great deal to keep its alien reveal a secret, though it did gesture to its sci-fi leanings. If it’s renewed, Sugar season 2 could more openly go in that direction, particularly now that Harry is not only hunting down one of his own kind, but also the one who may be behind the disappearance of his sister. But as it currently stands, there are no indications about whether the series will be brought back or cancelled.
